SBCT Youth Guild
What is the Sam Bass Community Theatre Youth Guild?
SBCT has an educational program with a hands-on way for our area's youth to learn the crafts and skills involved in the performing arts. SBCT Youth Guild is a learning experience that includes everything from what goes on behind the scenes backstage to performing experiences that culminate in an annual production on stage. Learning by doing is the motto of this exciting program.
Who facilitates the Youth Guild?
The Youth Guild is facilitated by the Youth Guild Coordinator on the SBCT Board of Directors.
Who can participate in the Youth Guild? What ages are able to participate?
The Youth Guild's mission is to teach theatrical skills to children of all ages. Our youngest participant has been 2, however, a basic reading level is encouraged for active participation. Participants of SBCT are considered members of the Youth Guild (even if not in a strictly Youth Guild performance) until the age of 18. All SBCT participants under the age of 18 are expected to adhere to the Youth Guild Code of Conduct (see below) and to have a Parent Permission Form on record for each production. 18 and 19 year-olds CAN participate in the Youth Guild Mainstage during the summer after their senior year; they are held to the SBCT Cast/Crew agreement and NOT the Youth Guild Code of Conduct.
How much is a membership? How long does a membership last?
Memberships can be purchased on-line though Vendini. Memberships range from $5.00-$20.00. All memberships support the Youth Guild Workshop Series and Youth Guild events. A membership is renewed on a yearly basis, just as full memberships of the theatre.
If I am a member of SBCT does my child count as a member of the Youth Guild?
No, Youth Guild memberships are seperate from adult SBCT memberships.
What are the benefits of membership?
Members of the Youth Guild are able to participate in the Youth Guild Workshop Series without additional fees. Also, Youth Guild members are eligible to audition for extra performances during the year, open to members only.
Youth Guild members over the age of 14 may run for the Youth Guild Board.
All Youth Guild members vote for Youth Guild Board members and vote on changes to the Youth Guild Bylaws.
Youth Guild members are also invited to a yearly meeting in August to vote on the new Youth Guild Board and any changes to the Bylaws.
